‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’, which opened over the weekend, has attracted more than 7,000 visitors to the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre to take part in a lively mix of physical and digital exhibits, workshops and science shows.
The 10-day interactive educational experience takes people of all ages on a journey into science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
“The level of interactivity is perfect because it requires students to read, listen, learn and participate, which ties in seamlessly with our science curriculum. Our visit has complemented everything students are currently learning in class,” said Marie King, a Year 6 class teacher at the Al Khor International School.
At the event, visitors, parents, students and children will enjoy a hands-on experience that creates a greater awareness of energy and its challenges. It will also stimulate creative thinking and innovation among the participants to find solutions to meet those challenges.
Dana Zahra, a student at Qatar Academy, said: “I really enjoyed the amount of activities on display. My favourite activity was the ‘Energy Generators’, it was so much fun. The whole event has showed me that STEM subjects are a really important part of supporting the future of Qatar.”
The event aims to inspire students in Qatar who want to learn more and pursue STEM subjects in higher education. These four subjects are fundamental to Qatar’s educational vision to build a prosperous future for the country.
Lamya al-Kubaisi, a student of the English Modern School, said: “The exhibits at this event showed me how science works and what energy looks like and what it can actually do."
‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’ has partnered with the Supreme Education Council and engaged teachers representing 11,000 students from 130 schools across Qatar to take part in the school programme which facilitates exclusive access to the event. There is no charge for schools, or members of the public to attend ‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’.
“The event ties in really well to the curriculum. I think all teachers will definitely be taking a bit of inspiration home with them to make their respective subjects more interactive and fun,” said Samuel Spencer, a design technology teacher at the New British Academy.
“Learning through play is a really important educational concept, and you can really see the children engaging with science and technology,” he added.
The event is open from 5pm to 10pm from Sunday to Thursday and from 2pm to – 10pm on Fridays and 10am to 10pm on Saturdays.
‘Energy World - Qatar 2015’ will run until November 28 with free tickets available by registering online at www.energyworldqatar.com.
‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’ is brought to Qatar by long-term partners Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Shell, in association with the Qatar Tourism Authority, with the vision of creating a positive impact in Qatar and to support the human development and environmental pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
