Call to boost security ties among GCC members

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani holding talks with the Undersecretaries of GCC Interior Ministries in Doha yesterday. The GCC officials were in Doha for the preparatory meeting for the 34th meeting of the GCC Interior Ministers to be held in Doha tomorrow. The Prime Minister wished the undersecretaries success in their meeting.

The threats facing the Gulf countries, in the light of recent developments in the region, were highlighted yesterday as the meeting of GCC interior ministry undersecretaries opened in Doha.
While referring to these threats, Director-General of Public Security (DGPS) Maj Gen Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi stressed the need to further strengthen security co-operation among member states, the official Qatar News Agency reported.
He also urged for a review of existing legislations in order to prevent violence and extremism and called for the activation of conventions and common security strategies that could contribute to addressing the dangers facing the region, based on religious and moral principles.
The meeting of the undersecretaries of GCC interior ministries comes in preparation for the 34th meeting of the GCC interior ministers, due to be held in Doha tomorrow.  
The agenda of the meeting includes topics related to the strengthening of security co-operation between the member states to counter all forms of crime and spreading greater security and stability in the GCC countries.
Major General al-Khulaifi, chairman of the meeting, welcomed the undersecretaries of GCC interior ministries and conveyed the greetings of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and his wishes of success in order to promote and strengthen the GCC joint security co-operation.  
The DGPS said the meeting prepares the ground for the GCC interior ministers’ meet, based on the shared collective responsibility to counter crime in all its forms and prevent its extension into societies.
He noted that the agenda of the meeting includes recommendations of the undersecretaries’ emergency meetings and all security committees and meetings, organised by the General Secretariat this year, which shows the determination to push forward security co-operation and face any challenges and developments, especially terrorism.
Further, Major General al-Khulaifi stressed the importance of co-operation among all GCC security services and co-ordination between intellectual, cultural, social and educational institutions.  
He extended thanks to the GCC General Secretariat and its staff for the efforts exerted in the preparation and follow-up of the various security meetings.
