Ship handling simulator procured by Milaha subsidiary is first of its kind in Qatar

Sheikh Ali inaugurating the simulator.

Halul Offshore Services Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Milaha, has procured a state-of-the-art offshore support vessel (OSV) ship handling simulator, which is the first of its kind in Qatar.
Halul is now one of the few companies in the Gulf region to own the Netherlands-built simulator, which is normally used in training schools.
Milaha chairman Sheikh Ali bin Jassim al-Thani inaugurated the simulator in the presence of Milaha president and chief executive Abdulrahman Essa al-Mannai; Halul chief executive Vivek Seth and other management teams.
“This simulator supports the development of our operational capabilities, and will allow Halul to continue to provide innovative solutions to our partners and clients in Qatar and beyond, particularly in today’s challenging market,” Sheikh Ali said.
Seth said the simulator will “significantly” add to Halul’s crew’s ship handling skills, and help them become better prepared for their next assignment on board its fleet of more than 40 vessels.
“With this simulator we can create scenarios for towing operations like rig moves, berthing, unberthing, and tanker assist operations offshore. The simulator has an option to program for both azimuth and conventional driven vessels,” he said, adding a dynamic positioning system has also been integrated with the simulator.
