Qatar’s ‘strongest man’ contest at Aspire Park

Qatar’s ‘Strongest Man’ competition, which is organised by Aspire Zone Foundation, will be held  at the Aspire Park tomorrow. The eight Qataris who have qualified to participate will compete in a number of challenges that will test their strength and endurance, such as truck-pulling, deadlifting, lifting sand bags, flipping giant tyres, heavy weight lifting (180kg) and car lifting.
The participants in the competition are Talal al-Kuwari, Fahad al-Haddad, Rashed al-Fehaida, Khamees al-Khulaifi, Hadi al-Braidy, Abdullah Issa al-Banali, Fahad al-Meadeed and Thamer al-Kuwari. Members of the community can visit and cheer for their favourite competitor at designated spectator areas as well as win valuable prizes that will be awarded in a number of audience competitions that will be held between breaks.

Madinat Khalifa Health Centre closed due to ‘technical error’
The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) said that Madinat Khalifa Health Centre was closed yesterday due to technical error.
The PHCC said it will reopen the centre as soon as possible to receive patients, adding that urgent cases should go to Al Gharafa Health Centre.


Sudanese govt ‘committed to Doha Agreement’

The Sudanese Government renewed its commitment to the Doha Agreement as an essential reference for the completion of the peace process in Darfur.
Head of the Government Delegation on the Negotiation for Cessation of Hostilities in Darfur Dr Amin Hassan Omar said at a press conference in Khartoum yesterday that this agreement is the basis of any efforts to complete the peace process in the region as it is supported by the UN Security Council  and stakeholders among the people of Darfur.

National Day greetings sent

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday sent congratulatory cables to Chairman of the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Covic, on his country’s National Day.

MEC recalls Porsche vehicles
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced the recall of 2014-2016 Porsche vehicles for possible leaks in the low-pressure fuel line inside the engine compartment, the official Qatar News Agency reported.
The recall is being conducted in co-operation with Porsche Centre Doha – Al Boraq Automobiles Company.
The recall comes within the framework of ongoing co-ordination and follow-up by the ministry to ascertain the extent of car dealerships’ commitment to following up on vehicular defects and repairing them to protect consumer rights.
The MEC said it would co-ordinate with the dealership to follow up on maintenance and repair operations and communicate with customers to ensure implementation of the procedures to fix defects.
The ministry urged consumers to report irregularities to the Department of Consumer Protection and Commercial Fraud Combat.

Prince Nayef Award winners named

The Commission of the Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Award for Security Research has declared the winners for 2015.
The theme of the research was “Cyber Crimes in the Gulf Society and How to Tackle Them”.
Ft Lt Mudawi Saeed al-Qahtani, officer at the Cybercrime Combating Centre of CID (Qatar), won the first place in the individual segment, while Rami Waheed Mohamed Ahmad Mansour (Bahrain) came second.
In the institution segment, Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences came first, while the National Information Centre of the Saudi Interior Ministry finished second.
Lt Col Mohamed Rabia al-Kuwari, Qatari representative at the commission, said the award was aimed at helping decision-makers in the field of security to find solutions in a scientific manner.
He added that the initiative would contribute to enhancing co-operation in maintaining security and stability in the GCC countries, and directing research efforts to address the security problems.
The first prize of the biennial award is worth SR1mn, the second prize worth SR250,000 and the third prize SR150,000.
