24 violations found in MEC raids on retail outlets

Doha

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce carried out surprise inspection campaigns this month to ensure compliance of retail outlets and hotels with regulations governing commercial activities and to crack down on violations.

The inspection campaigns, which covered a variety of commercial activities, targeted shops in Souq Al Ali and Umm Al Dhoom street, outlets at Al Rawnaq Centre in Al Rayyan and the Old Airport Area in addition to shops at the Landmark mall and hotels.

Ministry inspectors uncovered a total of 24 violations, including the practice of unlicensed commercial activities, expired commercial permits, violations to safety regulations and non-compliance with building descriptions outlined in commercial permits.

A total of 21 outlets were fined and notified in order to take the necessary measures to amend their commercial permits.

The Ministry urged all retail outlets and shop owners to comply with applicable regulations and laws governing commercial activities which can be accessed via the Ministry’s website www.mec.gov.qa to avoid being subjected to legal penalties.
