Imagine developing an idea which could become a long-term programme for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. For the third consecutive year, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has launched an educational challenge to encourage students to develop marketing campaigns to address issues like healthy living through sports, women’s participation or sustainability.
This year’s challenge includes 25 teams from high schools and universities that have been asked to design and implement campaigns to raise awareness and bring about behaviour change on the theme of ‘Healthy Living Through Sports’. The most exciting part for the young participants is that the campaigns, which demonstrate the most potential for future success, are developed into long-term projects and programmes by the SC.
These semester-long student-run educational challenges have been introduced by the SC with delivery partner EdVenture Partners to a classroom setting in high schools and universities across Qatar since 2013. The aim is to develop and deliver an engaging marketing campaign on an important topic, with top teams presenting to a live judging panel for cash scholarship prizes.
Past campaign topics that have been addressed include ‘Women and Sport in Qatar’ and ‘Qatar Environmental Sustainability’. This year with support of Educational Partner Josoor Institute, the 25 enrolled teams of students are busy designing and implementing campaigns to raise awareness and bring about behaviour change on the theme of ‘Healthy Living Through Sports’.
“This year’s project is very exciting as we actually give a small grant to each team participating to implement their campaigns,” said Sheila Dohmann, head of CSR at the SC. “The enthusiasm and output we have seen from the teams and their target audiences through active events and social media is proof that the next generation’s drive to improve their health is very high,” she added.
First and second place scholarships will be decided in an event on 8 December, where the two top high schools and one top university team will present their campaigns to a judging panel at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The panel includes Nasser al-Khater, SC assistant secretary general for Tournament Affairs, as well as senior representatives from the Supreme Council of Health, Aspire and Josoor Institute. (SC.qa)
