Qatari women participate in a discussion during the launching of ‘Springboard’ programme yesterday.

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) launched yesterday the fifth version of its ‘Springboard’ programme aimed at empowering Qatari women.
Organised in co-operation with the British Council Qatar and Springboard UK, the launching of the three-week programme was attended by 18 women from low-income families in Qatar.
“Springboard is a highly sophisticated professional development programme which provides housewives the opportunity to communicate and interact positively with different situations, set and pursue clear goals for themselves, and enhance significant skills such as self-confidence and balance between career and personal life,” QRCS Community Development head Manal al-Sulaiti said.
The participants are required to attend four workshops that will teach them to plan and prioritise their goals, and build positive relationships.
Al-Sulaiti added that the Qatari women will also meet with prominent figures from different walks of life who will share their success stories and how they were able to overcome challenges.
“This can motivate them toward dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their goals. Such successful women constitute role models for the participants,” the QRCS official noted.
QRCS empowerment specialist Maha al-Sheikh, administrative officer Mona Farag and British Council Springboard programme manager Marwa al-Tanbouli also attended the launch.
The programme is organised under a memorandum of understanding between QRCS and the British Council Qatar.
During its three previous courses, the programme received 72 women, at a total cost of QR150,000. It is developed by two world’s top personal development consultants, Jenny Daisley and Liz Willis.
Launched in Qatar in 2009 in co-operation with the Qatari Businesswomen Association, the programme awards certificates from Springboard UK and the British Council.
“For the second consecutive year, we are happy to provide a programme designed specifically for Qatari women of all ages,” al-Tanbouli said.
