The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) has celebrated the conclusion of Level 3 of the sign language adoption programme to deal with persons with hearing disabilities.
The training programme was organised by the human resources department, in collaboration with the Qatari Social and Cultural Centre for the Deaf, from November 15 to 26. It saw the participation of 16 male and female members of staff from customer service units, including two from the Public Works Authority.
The concluding ceremony was attended by Omar al-Yafei, director of the public relations and communications department, and Jabr Abdulla al-Attiyah, director of the human resources department, from the MMUP and Abdullah Ibrahim al-Mulla, chairman of the Qatari Social and Cultural Centre for the Deaf.
In his speech, al-Attiyah stressed that organising such courses was part of the MMUP’s efforts to provide adequate customer service through facilitating interaction and communication with persons with hearing disabilities. He also lauded the Qatari Social and Cultural Centre for the Deaf for its co-operation in the implementation of the programme designed for the ministry’s staff.
Al-Yafei congratulated the staff members who participated in the course, wishing that the implementation of advanced levels of the programme would continue to enable trainees to master sign language and benefit the ministry’s clients with hearing disabilities.
Al-Mulla noted in his lecture on sign language that the doors of the centre were open to receive trainees.
At the end of the event, al-Attiyah honoured al-Mulla as well as the course instructors, Aisha Abdul-Qadir Jarrar and Maysam Mosa Badr, both experts in sign language. He also distributed certificates among the trainees.
