The State of Qatar is committed to taking care of the growing requirements of the country’s special needs children, a meeting held yesterday as part of a one-month long celebrations in their honour was told.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi, HE the Minister of Health Abdullah bin Khalid al-Qahtani, and HE the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Dr Hessa Sultan al-Jaber were among the dignitaries present.
The event was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labour, Supreme Council of Health, Qatar University and Hamad Medical Corporation.
Al Noor Institute, Qatar Centre for Children with Special Needs, Qatar Social and Cultural Centre, Mada and Gulf Disability Society were also involved at different levels to host the event which saw participation of a large number of children with special needs, their parents and trainers.
Some of the special needs children, possessing multiple skills, also presented some cultural performances to entertain the gathering.
While informing the gathering about the initiatives being made by the country to safeguard the requirements of the children of special needs, speakers recalled the strides made over the years at different levels to bring remarkable improvement in their physical health, nature and levels of understanding.
One of the speakers informed that medical facilities at the hospitals under the Hamad Medical Corporation contributed considerably to development of both the mental and physical abilities of the special needs children. Some of the visible and even invisible health issues of such children could be effectively treated and significant results were achieved in recent years, she said while specifically mentioning about the strides made by some of those children.
Another speaker said the State is also providing enormous opportunities for the personality development of such children. One of such children, who is currently employed by the Ministry of Interior, is being sent for advanced training in a facility in the US.
She will leave for the programme shortly, added the speaker.
A host of programmes will be held in the coming days as part of the celebrations.
