Ajyal festival concludes Saturday with world premiere of ‘Bilal’

The third Ajyal Youth Film Festival, presented by the Doha Film Institute, concludes Saturday with the world premiere of Bilal directed by Ayman Jamal and Khurram H Alavi.
At the closing ceremony, the winners of the Ajyal Awards, chosen by a young jury aged 8 to 21, will be honoured. The festival showcased 80 films from 36 countries, including 17 ‘Made in Qatar’ films.
The talent associated with Bilal, an inspiring story of faith, hope and self-discovery, will attend the red carpet gala.
In a colourful celebration of cinema, several short films in the Bariq segment that are selected to satisfy the excitement and curiosity of children from the age of four, will also be screened today at 11.45am at the Katara Drama Theatre.
The films include Crush (South Africa; 2014) by Brent Dawes, The Law of the Jungle (Belgium; 2015) by Pascale Hecquet; The Mitten (Belgium, France; 2014) by Clementine Robach; and My Panda (France; 2014) by Camille Billaud, Doriane Lopez and Domitille Mellac.
Film-lovers also have the final opportunity at Ajyal to watch some of the accomplished works in international cinema today. Kick-start the day with Celestial Camel (Russia; 2014) by Yury Feting to screen at 11am at Katara 12 – Theatre A. At noon, Katara 12 – Theatre B will screen The Greatest House in the World (Guatemala, Mexico; 2015), directed by Ana V Bojorquez and Lucia Carreras.
Walls (Spain, 2015) by Migueltxo Molina and Pablo Iraburu will screen at 2pm at Katara 12 – Theatre A. Watch the adventure of a 11-year-old boy Leo, who is terminally ill but discovers that when he closes his eyes he can leave his body for a short time, in Phantom Boy (Belgium, France; 2015), directed by Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol, at 2.45pm at Katara 12-Theatre B.
At 2.45pm at Katara Drama Theatre, watch in 3D, the spectacular Wolf Totem (China, France; 2015) by Academy Award-winner Jean-Jacques Annaud. Lamb (France, Ethiopia, Germany, Norway, Qatar; 2015), a clear-eyed look at a youth’s struggle to find his way in the world, directed by Yared Zeleke, screens at 5pm at Katara 12 – Theatre A, while Mina Walking (Canada, Afghanistan; 2015) by Yosef Baraki, will screen at 5.45pm at Katara 12 – Theatre B.
The Second Mother (Brazil, 2015) directed by Anna Muylaert will be shown at 8.30pm at Katara 12 Theatre A. The final screening at the festival will be Mia madre (Italy, France; 2015), directed by Nanni Moretti at 9.15pm at Katara 12-Theatre B.
