Commuters and residents of the Industrial Area have called for enhanced bus services to the fast-developing neighbourhood of Asian Town.
The place, which also hosts the sprawling Workers' City, is turning into a major commercial destination and also receiving a steady stream of new residents, it is learnt.
This heightened activity has led to a demand for better public transport access to the area.
At present, the Asian Town serves as a bus transit point for those looking to travel between Doha and different parts of the Industrial Area. Residents now want bus connectivity to other parts of the country as well from the Asian Town neighbourhood.
Though a number of bus services are currently operated from Asian Town, it is generally felt that these should be increased in view of the growing movement of people to and from the area every day.
There is a specific demand from residents to operate more buses between Asian Town and Doha Bus Station (DBS) on weekends as well as to places such as Al Wakrah and Barwa Village.
Referring to the growing popularity of the cinema located at Asian Town, the residents said many people - particularly workers from the Industrial Area - visit the place regularly and there is a pressing need to improve connectivity.
To facilitate the smoother movement of movie-goers, commuters have sought direct links to Asian Town from different places, particularly those lying to the south.
Similarly, there are requests from residents of Workers' City to operate services to the DBS through F-Ring Road, Airport and Ras Abu Aboud to city areas.
"Though there is excellent road connectivity from the area to most places lying on the country's eastern side, there are no direct buses to that side from Asian Town or its neighbourhood," said a resident of Workers' City.
