The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) mission in Turkey has started operating the Al Razi Health Centre in Al Qabun, Damascus, in partnership with the International Humanitarian Relief (IHR).
The project is aimed at offering primary and secondary healthcare to the local community and displaced people amid escalated violence and subsequent casualties and displacement.
The facility has two parts: a primary healthcare centre to provide treatment and medicines for free through general, internal medicine, paediatrics and dental clinics, as well as a medical laboratory and a pharmacy; and a 45-bed surgical department to perform surgeries, intensive care and recovery for serious cases such as burns and fracture.
Receiving 3,000 patients per month, the centre serves the district’s 23,000 population and neighbouring areas, with a total number of 53,000 beneficiaries. It is the only health service provider in eastern Damascus, according to a statement.
The Al Razi Health Centre is one of a series of health facilities opened and run by QRCS to support the medical sector in different parts of Syria, in co-ordination with other health and humanitarian organisations working in the country, the statement notes.
