Qatar Airways sponsored a charity event organised by Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) in Amman, Jordan, recently.
Sponsorship of the event was part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the Doha-based carrier said in a statement yesterday.
A Qatar Airways delegation comprising Samira Fakhri, Salam al-Shawa, senior vice-president (marketing and corporate communications), and Nabeela Fakhri, senior vice-president (human resources), met a group of 400 orphans and shared a day of festivities.
This was followed by giveaways and gifts from Qatar Airways and RAF.
“Corporate social responsibility is a priority for Qatar Airways. As a global airline, we aim to support local communities in health, sport and education in addition to being an active member in the communities that we, the national carrier of Qatar, operate in,” al-Shawa said.
Dr Ayed bin Dabssan al-Qahtani, chairman of the board of trustees and general director of RAF, said: “We highly appreciate Qatar Airways’ support to RAF’s humanitarian programmes and are happy to continue our partnership with the national carrier to help and support creating opportunities for orphans and develop our charitable initiatives for a better future.”
The delegation also visited the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC) as part of its CSR. They were welcomed by Dr Hikmat Abdel-Razeq, deputy director-general of the centre.
The visit included a tour of the centre and its facilities followed by a presentation on KHCC’s services.
The Qatar Airways delegation distributed gifts and giveaways among young patients.
