Barwa Bank officials and al-Muftah (second right) speak about the documentary yesterday.

Documentary to inspire youths

A documentary, The Journey to the Depths, will highlight the importance of supporting the potential of children and youth in achieving their hopes and goals through sheer determination and willpower, a senior official of Barwa Bank has said.
The film recounts young hero Ghanem Mohamed al-Muftah’s deep-sea diving experience as he overcomes a rare physical ailment, Caudal Regression Syndrome, with determination.
“We are honouring al-Muftah and his ability to reach all his goals,” Barwa Bank acting CEO Khalid Youssef al-Subeai said yesterday. Barwa Bank announced its sponsorship of the documentary as part of its corporate social responsibility framework.
After yearlong intensive and rigorous training for al-Muftah, the documentary filming took place in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, its story centring on the importance of hard work in reaching success.
“The great strides that al-Muftah has made in this journey in taking part in one of the toughest sports and the countless hours of practice was not an easy task and required a lot of hard work and dedication,” observed Barwa Group’s chief communications officer Talal Ahmed al-Khaja.
A cinema release of the inspirational documentary is expected in the near future while a slew of activities and functions that will see al-Muftah representing the bank in public media appearances are soon to be announced.
“With the presence of an international team, I raise the curtain on one of the most important life experiences I have had,” he said. The press conference was also attended by the group’s chief administrative officer Abdullah Majed al-Malki.
