Four teams attend workshops to prepare for final of third SC educational challenge

By Sports Reporter/Doha

Four teams have reached the final of the third Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) educational challenge which will take place today as teams present to a live judging panel at QNCC. This year students have been asked to design and implement campaigns to raise awareness and bring about behaviour change on the theme of ‘Healthy Living Through Sports’.
Students from Qatar University’s College of Business & Economics and from Park House School and the English Modern School and Qatar Leadership Academy, both in Al Khor, will participate in the award ceremony for the third SC education challenge. Ahead of the final, over 50 youths had the chance to attend capacity building workshops to learn how to prepare their submissions into presentations and enhance their public speaking tools.
The finalists will present to a live judging panel consisting of Mansor al -Ansari, General Secretary, Qatar Football Association; Nasser al-Khater, SC Assistant Secretary General, Tournament Affairs; Isabel Gultresa, SC CSR Senior Manager; and Vasiliki Topalidou, Head, Events & Partnerships, Aspire Academy.
Mohammed Abdulrahman al-Khulaifi, a student at Qatar Leadership Academy, said: “We have quizzed teachers and students to find out what healthy habits they already have. Many on the survey admitted that they’re not healthy and wanted to change their lifestyle. The main objective of this campaign is to spread awareness on physical health.”
He added: “We are the future. Our school has decided that November would be health month, so we organised soccer matches against other schools in Al Khor.”
Meanwhile, Abdullah al-Baker from Qatar University spoke about his strategy to generate a change in lifestyle. He said: “Imagine that we have a bridge and there are three types of people. On one side, the winners, in the middle the self-improvers, and on the other side, the resisters. What will happen is that the winners will motivate the self-improvers to go to the positive side. When the resisters see that those in the middle have moved in the right direction they will be encouraged and move to the middle. That’s the cycle we want to start to generate a lifestyle change.”
Rahema Velmi, a student from Park House School, explained that one of the key findings of the research done is the lack of knowledge about health. In this context, their goal is to excite, educate and motivate people to do sports together and ultimately take part in their campaign, which is called ‘Health’.
This year’s challenge included 25 teams from high schools and universities that were asked to design and implement campaigns to raise awareness and bring about behaviour change on the theme of ‘Healthy Living Through Sports’.
The project was conducted with the assistance of SC’s educational partner, Josoor Institute. This is the third consecutive year the SC has launched an educational challenge to encourage students to develop marketing campaigns to address issues like healthy living through sports, women’s participation or  to promote sustainability.
These semester-long student-run educational challenges have been introduced by the SC with delivery partner EdVenture Partners to a classroom setting in high schools and universities across Qatar since 2013. The aim is to develop and deliver an engaging marketing campaign on an important topic, with top teams presenting to a live judging panel for cash scholarship prizes.
