Wide receiver Antonio Brown (pictured) received a dose of good and bad from the NFL on Wednesday.
He was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week but was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct because of his touchdown celebration during Sunday’s 45-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Brown totalled 74 punt return yards, including a 71-yarder for a touchdown. He punctuated the score by using the goalpost as prop, which drew a flag and an $11,576 fine.
It was Brown’s fourth career punt return for a touchdown, tying the Steelers’ all-time record set by Antwaan Randle El. Brown also recorded two receiving touchdowns on offense to become the first Steeler to record a punt return for a touchdown and two receiving touchdowns in the same game.
Brown, with 1,527 career punt return yards, became one of three Steelers to eclipse 1,500. He trails only Rod Woodson (2,362) and Randle El (1,650). Also, Brown is the first player in team history and 10th player in NFL history with 6,000 receiving yards and 1,500 punt return yards in his career.
“Obviously, my teammates provided some great blocks on that play,” said Brown, who earned his third weekly special teams honour. “It’s a fun part of the game. Anytime you can make a splash play or provide great field position for the offense, it’s always helpful to win the game.”
