Qatar and Cyprus sign open skies pact

Nicosia
Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Cyprus Government have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of air transportation.
The MoU was signed for the Qatari side by CAA chairman Abdullah bin Nasser Turki al-Subaie, and for the Cypriot side was signed by Alecos Michaelides, secretary, ministry of transport, communications and works. The MoU provides unconditional open skies between the two countries taking advantage of the Fifth freedom so that national airliner companies in both countries can fly between the main cities through any medium state and beyond the two countries.
This is the first full rights agreement signed by Cyprus with Qatar compared with the countries of the region, as this agreement will reinforce the position of Qatar in its negotiations with some EU countries.
After the signing of the MoU, the General Authority of Civil Aviation has achieved a record number in the number of agreements and memorandums of understanding in the field of air transportation reaching a total number of 155 agreements in a very short period.
With the beginning of next year the CAA will draw up a plan to update all existing agreements to facilitate the national carrier requirements as well as making new agreements with several countries in the world that may be used by Qatar Airways for its future plans.
