Dallas Stars’ John Klingberg (No 3) comes away with the loose puck as goalie Antti Niemi is knocked over by Philadelphia Flyers center Brayden Schenn (No 10) in the second period of an NHL game in Dallas.

The Flyers, already tired from playing their second road game in as many nights, were even more worn down by their continual parade to the penalty box Friday night.
Not a recipe for success against the explosive and rested Dallas Stars.
Dallas didn’t take advantage of its six power plays, but it controlled the game’s tempo and defeated the Flyers, 3-1, at the American Airlines Center.
The Flyers, coming off a 4-2 victory in St. Louis, had their four-game road winning streak snapped.
Jamie Benn secured the victory with his 20th goal, scored into an empty net, with 52.4 seconds left.
Michal Neuvirth, making his second start in as many nights, was superb (again), but the Flyers didn’t have many quality scoring chances and were outshot, 44-20.
One of their best opportunities came with about 5 minutes, 20 seconds left in regulation -- just after their power play had expired. Winger Wayne Simmonds, as he was falling down, had an open net from out front, but his backhander went just wide.
Dallas got a bizarre goal to end Michal Neuvirth’s shutout and tie the game at 1-all with 5:54 left in the second period. Mattias Janmark’s dump-in from near the far boards caromed off the skate of Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds and into the net. Just 3:22 later, Antoine Roussel dug out a rebound and beat Neuvirth to put the Stars ahead, 2-1.
Roussel and the Flyers’ Pierre-Edouard Bellemare are the only France-raised players in the NHL.
Looking fatigued from playing two games in two nights, the Flyers were outshot, 34-14, in the first two periods and spent an inordinate amount of time in the penalty box.
Shayne Gostisbehere had given the Flyers a 1-0 lead, taking a feed from Claude Giroux and one-timing a blast past Antti Niemi with 10:37 remaining in the second. Simmonds screened Niemi on the play.
It was Gostisbehere’s fourth power-play goal, which at the time was tops among NHL rookies, even though the defenseman has played just 14 games. But the Stars answered with two goals late in the period to take a 2-1 lead into the third. In the first two periods, Dallas was 0 for 6 on the power play -- including one that carried into the third -- while the Flyers were 1-for-1.
The Flyers were trying to slow down a Dallas team that entered the night leading the NHL in scoring, averaging 3.50 goals per game.
“They have a lot of elements there,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said before the game. “... Dallas gets up and down the rink really well. They transition and create a lot off the rush.” They created plenty in the first period, outshooting the Flyers, 18-9, and dominating most of the stanza. Only Neuvirth’s brilliant goaltending kept the game scoreless after the opening 20 minutes.
Neuvirth made a key first-period stop on Valeri Nichushkin’s one-timer off a two-on-one break. He also made glove saves on ticketed power-play drives by Jyrki Jokipakka and Tyler Seguin.
“I gave everything I had tonight,” Neuvirth said. “They threw a lot of pucks at the net and they got lucky.”
The Flyers, outshot by a 15-3 margin over the last 12 minutes of the first period, had a two-on-one opportunity early in the game, but Brayden Schenn, after taking a feed from Giroux, flubbed the shot and Niemi was able to make an easy save.
The Stars’ high-powered top line _ Seguin centering Jamie Benn and Nichushkin _ entered the night with a combined 38 goals and 90 points in 29 games. By comparison, the Flyers’ Giroux-centered top line had totaled 20 goals and 46 points. Seguin and Benn scored goals in Dallas’ 2-1 win at the Wells Fargo Center on Oct. 20, a game in which Steve Mason stopped 30 of 32 shots.
Devils 3, Red Wings 2 (overtime)
New Jersey winger Kyle Palmeri scored on a breakaway with 39.3 seconds left in overtime to lift the Devils to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings at the Prudential Center. Power play goals by Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar in the second period gave the Red Wings a two-goal advantage, but the Devils rallied to tie it on third-period goals from Damon Severson and Sergey Kalinin.
Kings 3, Penguins 2 (shootout)
Marian Gaborik won it by snapping a shot under the crossbar in the fourth round of shootout, and the Los Angeles Kings won their sixth in a row, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2. Jonathan Quick won a goaltender duel with Marc-Andre Fleury in a game filled with considerable offense despite the final score, preventing Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Nick Bonino from scoring in the shootout while making 40 saves through regulation and overtime. Fleury made 38.
Blackhawks 2, Jets 0
Chicago winger Patrick Kane scored a goal to increase his point streak to 25 games as the Blackhawks cruised to a 2-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Goaltender Corey Crawford stopped all 25 shots he faced to collect his third shutout of the season and the 15th of his career. Jonathan Toews also scored for the Blackhawks.
Coyotes 2, Wild 1 (overtime)
Mikkel Boedker scored his second goal of the game on a rebound 34 seconds into overtime and the Arizona Coyotes snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild at Gila River Arena.
Oilers 7, Rangers 5
The Edmonton Oilers extended their winning streak to five games with a 7-5 win over the New York Rangers. Lauri Korpikoski had a hat trick and Taylor Hall scored twice in the third period to help Edmonton sweep their five-game homestand and move to within a point of the Pacific Division playoff cutline.
Hurricanes 5, Ducks 1
Hurricanes winger Jeff Skinner scored three goals and goalie Eddie Lack stopped 31 shots for his second victory, leading Carolina to a 5-1 rout of the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center. Elias Lindholm and Jordan Staal added goals as the Hurricanes (11-14-4) secured their third victory in four games.
