France meet Romania to open Euro ’16

Hosts France open Euro 2016 with a Group A match against Romania on June 10 in the draw made by UEFA yesterday while defending champions Spain are in a group with Croatia.
France start their home tournament in the Stade de France in Paris with Romania of the third seeding group providing the opposition, while Switzerland and Albania complete Group A.
Spain, winners in 2008 and 2012, begin the defence of their title in Toulouse on June 13 against the Czech Republic and also face Turkey and Croatia in Group D.
World Cup holders Germany, themselves three-time European champions, are in Group C where they open their campaign against Ukraine in Lille on June 12, and also face Poland - who they met in the qualifying group - and debutants Northern Ireland.
England, the only team who qualified for the competition with a 100 per cent record, have a Group B British derby with debutants Wales to look forward to after they open against Russia in Marseille on June 11. Slovakia, making their debut at the Euros, complete the group.
The Republic of Ireland were rewarded for their qualification through the play-offs by being paired with the number one ranked team in the world, Belgium, in Group E.
Martin O’Neill’s team were given a further tough tasks against Italy, who they met at Euro 2012, from the second pot and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Sweden from the third.
Minnows Iceland landed in Group F where they meet Portugal, Austria and Hungary in their first-ever appearance at a major tournament.
England manager Roy Hodgson said that his team had “a lot of respect for Wales.” Wales—who will be appearing at their first European Championship—and England will meet in the northern French city of Lens on June 16.
