CMU-Q celebrates Qatar National Day

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar’s (CMU-Q) student-led Qatari Student Association hosted National Day festivities for students, faculty, staff and the wider QF community to celebrate Qatar’s heritage and culture.
The evening included sword dancing, henna and the serving of traditional Qatari food to give participants greater insight into Qatari traditions while demonstrating the importance of preserving the local cultural heritage.  The highlight of the evening was an exclusive performance by local singer
Nasser al-Kubaisi.
“Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar’s campus is extremely diverse, with students from across the globe studying here. Qatar National Day is an enriching experience, offering students from different cultural backgrounds the opportunity to learn about the rich culture and heritage of Qatar,” said Ilker Baybars, dean and chief executive officer,
CMU-Q.
Event organiser and president of the Qatari Student Association, Maryam al-Naemi, said: “Qatar National Day reminds us Qataris why we love Qatar so much, and it also shows the international students the traditions they might have not known about and joins us as a community. Qatari or not, we are all part of a community and the National Day celebration is a way to bring us closer together.”
