The historic run of the Golden State Warriors was finally stopped by the streak-busting Milwaukee Bucks.
The Warriors had their 24-game winning winning streak stopped Saturday by the Bucks, who got 28 points from Greg Monroe and a triple-double from Giannis Antetokounmpo in a stirring 108-95 home victory. Michael Carter-Williams scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter for Milwaukee, which gave out T-shirts to fans at the BMO Harris Bradley Center that read “24-1” - and proved to be prophetic.
“Losing sucks,” Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said. “Even if you’re 24-1, losing still sucks.”
Superstar Stephen Curry scored 28 points for defending champion Golden State, which won its final four games last season and was riding an overall 28-game winning streak, second in NBA history after the 33-game run by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.
Milwaukee also ended that streak on January 9, 1972.  It was the sixth winning streak of 12 games or more ended by the Bucks. The previous five teams all went on to win the league title.
“There’s no reason for anyone in that locker room to hang their heads,” Walton said. “They’ve been incredible all year.”
Golden State was trying to become the first team in NBA history to go undefeated on a seven-game road trip. But it was playing for the sixth time in nine nights, coming off an exhausting double-overtime win at Boston on Friday and without injured forward Harrison Barnes.
The Warriors shot just 41 percent (36-of-88) from the field, including just 6-of-26 on three-pointers. They never led in the second half and were held to a season low in points. But Monroe did nott want to hear any excuses.
“We played last night also,” he said. “I know that’s not their first back-to-back this season.”
A layup by Curry cut the deficit to 80-79 late in the third quarter, but Carter-Williams answered with a bucket and teamed with Monroe to dominate the final period, combining for 22 of Milwaukee’s 28 points.  Monroe fed Carter-Williams for a dunk and a 93-80 advantage with 5:59 to play.
“We’re at our best when we’re moving the ball, sharing it, making plays for each other,” said Monroe, who had 11 rebounds. Curry had a three-pointer and layup to pull Golden State within 95-88 but missed a three-pointer before Monroe drove for a hoop and a 99-88 bulge. Monroe’s three-point play sealed it at 102-90 with under three minutes left.
“It looked like they wanted it a little more tonight,” Walton admitted. “It looked like we just ran out of gas. Monroe played a heck of a quarter.”
Antetokounmpo had 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Jabari Parker scored 19 points and O.J. Mayo added 18 for the Bucks, who shot 49 per cent (44-of-89). Draymond Green had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors, who play their next five games at home.  “I bet there will be a little bit of relief, mentally, going forward,” Walton said. “We plan on continuing to win a lot of ballgames.”

San Antonio Spurs 103, Atlanta Hawks 78: Kawhi Leonard scored 22 points for the host Spurs, who have won six of seven overall and 11 straight against the Hawks.
Houston Rockets 126, Los Angeles Lakers 97: James Harden scored 30 points as the Rockets won for the fifth time in six games. Kobe Bryant scored 25 points for the woeful Lakers, who completed a 1-7 road trip.
