Oryx GTL makes presentation at petroleum conference

Oryx GTL participated in the ninth International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), which took place at Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha recently under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani opened the conference, held this year under the theme “Technology and partnerships for a sustainable energy future”.
Oryx GTL marketing manager Gary von Berg and senior business analyst Henning Viljoen presented a paper to an audience of interested industry participants, dealing with the results of a trial held in Qatar from September 2014 to February this year.
The trial was carried out to demonstrate the technical feasibility and environmental benefits of using GTL fuel in Qatar. In particular, such an extended trial had not been carried out in the conditions experienced in the Middle East, according to a statement from Oryx GTL.
“The extremely positive results, which trended similarly to trials run elsewhere and revealed significantly lower toxic emissions as well as reduced smoke particle emission, were shared with the audience,” the statement noted.
The presentation also highlighted the benefit a user of GTL fuel would achieve through lower maintenance costs and concluded that technically, GTL fuel was suitable and environmentally beneficial to be used in Qatar.
Oryx GTL stressed that it was grateful for the industry and government support it received, in particular from the Supreme Education Council, Mowasalat, Qatar Fuel (Woqod), Qatar University and Texas A&M University at Qatar.
“We believe the conference will add value to our industry in Qatar and the region and is an opportunity for us to reflect on GTL’s success story on a global stage,” the statement adds.
