A report has been filed against Bangladesh cricketer Anamul Haque Bijoy for beating and stabbing a young man in Kushtia district town.
Abdul Halim, father of victim Motaleb Hossain Bappy, 24, filed the report with Kushtia Model police station on Sunday night.
Halim complained that Bijoy’s family had been living at a rented apartment on the first floor of his four-storey house at Gourishankar Agarwal Road in Aruapara area of the town over the last four years. Bijoy’s father Jamil Hossain had an altercation with Bappy over some trifle issue.
Following the incident, Bijoy along with three of his friends went to his house from Dhaka. Later, Bijoy and his brother Sajib beat Bappy with a bat and stabbed him with a sharp weapon, according to the report.
Critically injured, Bappy was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.
Biplob Kumar Debnath, in-charge of Kushtia Model police station, said they will take legal steps after investigating the complaint.
Last week, the high court granted bail to cricketer Shahadat Hossain in connection with a case filed for torturing his 11-year-old domestic help.
The high court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain granted the bail till March 31 following a petition filed by Shahadat.
A Dhaka court on October 5 sent the suspended national cricketer to jail after he surrendered before it seeking bail in the case. Shahadat’s surrender came two days after police arrested his wife Jesmine Jahan Nrittya at one of her relatives’ house at Malibagh in Dhaka in connection with the same case.
Meanwhile, Jesmine secured bail on December 1.
