As part of the Qatar National Day celebrations today, a Twenty20 cricket match will be held between Pakistan Stars and Qatar Stars at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, near Grand Mall, Industrial Area.
Pakistan cricketers such as Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, Adnan Akmal, Umar Akmal, Fawad Alam, Aizaz Cheema, Taufik Umar, Rana Naveed, Mohammed Asif, Saeed Ajmal and Imran Farhat will be part of the Pakistan team.
The T20 match has already created buzz in Qatar, with the expatriate community excited to watch Pakistan cricketers, few of them still part of the national set-up, in action.
All eyes will be on Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, who were banned for five years for their part in the spot-fixing scandal of 2010, but were allowed to return to the official fold recently.
Prolific off-spinner Saeed Ajmal will also be one to look out for. Ajmal, was forced to remodel his bowling action after being reported for suspect action in Sept 2014. He is currently out of the Pakistan side despite correcting his bowling action. He has played in 35 Tests and 113 ODIs having taken 178 and 184 wickets respectively.
The Pakistani players arrived in Doha yesterday evening and took part in light training session. The players were delighted to see the festive ambiance in Doha on the eve of Qatar National Day. Several Qatar-based players from India, Sri Lanka & Pakistan will take part in the match.
