Germany’s Jens Schoor and Egyptian top seed Omar Abdel Meguid will contest the final of the Qatar Circuit II, PSA M15 tournament after they defeated Ivan Yuen and Iker Pajares Bernabeu in their respective semi-final clashes at the Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex yesterday.
Schoor, who was the runner-up in the first instalment of the Qatar Circuit last month, was sensational in his match against Malaysia’s Yuen and stormed into an impressive lead after his accurate shot-making skills were rewarded.
Yuen clawed a game back in the third but was powerless to resist a rampant Schoor in the fourth and final game with the World No. 74 surging to an 11-2, 11-9, 4-11, 11-0 victory to reach a third successive PSA World Tour final and stay in with a chance of securing back-to-back titles for the first time in his career.
“Until today I was quite happy,” said Schoor. “These events are never easy but the set-up here helps my game. Everyone is a good player. Ivan, even though he wasn’t 100 per cent fit and was struggling with a little injury, I think he did a great job today.”
“It’s never easy to play these kinds of matches because you know the other player is not really 100 per cent and you try to rush it a bit too much and all of a sudden he is there. It’s never easy but I am happy to be through to the final and I hope that I can keep up my good performance tomorrow.
“I missed out on the title here last time, so this time I am determined It’s going to be my last match of the year so it would be great to finish with a win,” added the German, who lost Mohamed Reda of Egypt in a closely-fought five-gamer in the final of Qatar Circuit I in November.
Meguid, meanwhile, benefitted from an injury to Bernabeu to progress before the second game had finished and will be hoping that his relatively fresh legs can help spur him on to success against Schoor in today’s final.
