More than 4,000 children in the age group of five to 10 participated in the Tree of Qatar contest for Hawiyati, National Day celebrations by Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall and its partners.
The contest was to write a message and express their love to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Qatar.
“Your Highness, you are a good man and every Qatari values you,” wrote, Fahad Youssef, one of the winners of the contest. Zayed Jamal pledged his best to Qatar by “I give my soul to Qatar, the best country in my eyes”, while Malak Abdel Fatah wrote about HH the Father Emir: “You brought the heritage to life and created the basis for Qatar’s emancipation”.
Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall had announced prizes worth QR15,000 for the winners.
Feroz Moideen, general manager, Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall, said: “It was our immense pride to support the nation by highlighting its impressive culture. The Tree of Qatar was an initiative that portrays the love to our nation through the words of young generation. The overwhelming response of this particular initiative and the creativity showcased by children was amazing.”
“I thank Hyatt Plaza management and all the partners of Hawiyati, for putting up the concept of the Tree of Qatar, It got everyone’s admiration,” said Ali al-Shirawi, co-organiser of the event.
Emperor of Japan congratulated
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday sent a cable of congratulations to Emperor Akihito of Japan on the occasion of his country’s National Day.
HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani sent a similar cable of congratulations to Emperor Akihito.
Condolences sent to Mauritanian leader
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday sent a cable of condolences to the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, on the death of his son Ahmed Ould Abdel Aziz.

QC delegation to visit Sudan
A delegation of Qatar Chamber (QC) is leaving for North Kurdufan in Sudan tomorrow to explore potential investment projects in mining, real estate development, animal wealth and solar energy.
The delegation is headed by QC vice-chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Tuwar. The four-day visit is in response to an invitation from Sudanese officials for the Qatari business community to conduct a field visit to see the promising investment opportunities.
MEC recalls Range Rover models
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced a recall of 2014-16 Range Rover Sport and 2013-16 Range Rover models over a defect in the door lock.
The recall is being carried out in collaboration with Alfardan Premier Motors.
The campaign falls within the framework of the MEC’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that dealers follow up on vehicle defects and repairs.
The ministry has said it will co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on maintenance and repair works and communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out.
It has urged consumers to report violations to its Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department through the hotline (16000), e-mail (info@mec.gov.qa), Twitter (@MEC_Qatar), Instagram (MEC_Qatar) and the MEC mobile app for Android and iOS (MEC_Qatar).
