Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal yesterday sought to know why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley were “afraid” of a probe into the affairs of Delhi’s cricket body.
Referring to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raid on Delhi Secretariat on December 15, Kejriwal said: “We (Aam Aadmi Party) co-operated with your raid, you must also co-operate with the enquiry commission (set up by our government),” Kejriwal tweeted.
“We did not fear your raid, why are you afraid of the enquiry commission?”
The Delhi government has set up an enquiry commission to probe the allegations of corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) which Jaitley headed for 13 years until 2013.
Kejriwal said many television channels were claiming the commission of enquiry he had ordered was “illegal”. The chief minister asked: “Was the CBI raid legal?”.
Jaitley has sued Kejriwal and other leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party for linking him with the alleged corruption in the DDCA.
The BJP has suspended its MP Kirti Azad for campaigning against Jaitley on the same issue.
Earlier Finance Minister Arun Jaitley took a dig at Kejriwal for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the AAP and its supporters have lowered the level of political discourse.
“The political discourse cannot be couched in vulgar language. Falsehood delivered with vulgar overtones is not a substitute of truth. Lumpenisation of public discourse can never be high point of politics,” Jaitley said in a Facebook post.
“Functionaries of the Delhi government and its supporters have lowered the level of political discourse,” he added.
Jaitley also said people in positions were expected to act with restraint.
“They cannot be outlandish. Vulgarity is not a right available to them,” he said.
Jaitley accused the Aam Aadmi Party of spreading falsehood, and also targeted the Congress.
“They rely heavily on general falsehood without ever stating the specifics. The AAP’s success in Delhi seems to have misled the Congress party that vulgarity brings votes,” he said.
BJP veterans, including former president L K Advani, met on Thursday amid signs that a section of the party is not happy over the suspension of MP Kirti Azad for taking on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over alleged corruption in Delhi’s cricket body.
In a related development, more than 100 supporters of Azad, staged a noisy protest outside the BJP headquarters here against his suspension.
