Several suction trucks were in action in different parts of the city all through Saturday to pump out water accumulated during the rains which continued from Friday until Saturday morning.
Though the rain subsided by early afternoon , clearing activities are continuing in many parts of the city. There is no rain forecast for Sunday or Monday.
The rains that lashed Qatar since Friday evening have left many of the low lying areas water logged. Abu Hamour, Hilal, Mamoura, Al Waab among others, had several places inundated.
Learning its lessons from the last month's heavy downpour, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning had taken adequate precautions and deployed several water suction trucks as soon as it started to rain on Friday.
Water standing on streets and low lying grounds in several areas has been drained out. Such operations are in progress in many other areas.
However, it was a fun filled day for many children who had a great time playing in the flooded areas. The rainy days also happened to be holidays, being the weekend.
Several children could be seen riding their bicycles as well as splashing through the inundated areas. It was a great opportunity for them to enjoy every bit of the rain with their friends as well as siblings.
After the rains stopped, people were seen taking a stroll through different areas of the city and enjoying the fine weather. Many could be seen out in the open with their families and friends while some others were engaged in fishing.
According to the weather department , Abu Hamour in Doha received the highest rainfall over the past three days. According to the data released on the Twitter page of the Qatar Met department, Abu Hamour received 53.5mm of rain from Thursday until yesterday, followed by Hamad International Airport 50.7mm and Doha Airport 49.7mm.
Other places that received heavy rain included Qatar University (46.7mm), Al Ruwais (46mm), Al Wakrah (45.1mm), Abu Samra (43.4mm), Al Guwayriyah (42.8mm) and Turayna (41.8mm). During the last spell of heavy rain in Qatar in November, the area around HIA had received 80.8mm of rain.
