The Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling of the Court of First Instance ordering a hospital to pay a compensation of QR1mn to a woman for committing a medical error.
The woman had a Cesarean section delivery at the hospital and gave birth to twins. However, negligence and medical error led to blindness in the newborns as well as brain damage, as was established by the court, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
A report by a medical body appointed by the court confirmed that the woman did not get enough medical care and attention and the physician's assessment of the case also contributed to the adverse consequences, the daily reported.
Accordingly, the court ruled that the woman deserved compensation for the damage she and her babies sustained.
The lawyer for the woman initially requested a huge compensation, arguing that she would require the money for the treatment of her children.
