Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed humanitarian aid among Yemeni refugees in the coastal region of Obock in Djibouti.
Some 585 Yemeni families in Obock have benefited from the initiative, which has been carried out with the participation of Sheikha Hessa bint Khalifa al-Thani, the Arab League’s Special Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs and QC’s goodwill ambassador.
The aid includes basic foodstuff and cleaning materials.
Sheikha Hessa participated in the distribution of the aid, which reached all Yemeni families in Djibouti, according to a statement from QC. She also visited QC’s office in Djibouti to review with its staff the conditions of the Yemeni refugees and what they would need in the future.
The aid was distributed in co-ordination with the authorities concerned, including ONARS (Office National d’Assistance aux Refugies et Sinistres), government representatives in Obock and representatives of Yemeni refugees in the city.
Faisal Rashid al-Fahida, QC’s executive director of operations, said the organisation provided Yemeni refugees with the necessary aid in line with its commitment, hoping to provide relief and secure a better life for them.
He added that QC would put in more effort in the future with all partners concerned to meet the most pressing humanitarian needs facing the Yemeni people.
Meanwhile, Sheikha Hessa commended QC’s efforts in providing relief to the affected people, especially displaced Syrians and refugees. She recalled her earlier participation in the inauguration of several projects implemented by QC near the Syrian-Turkish border. She also praised QC’s response to her initiative to distribute relief aid among Yemeni refugees in Obock region.
The observations were made at a conference, where she had invited all local, foreign Arabic and Islamic charity organisations, in Djibouti recently. The conference was part of the Arab League’s plan to develop its humanitarian work and activate the Arabic co-ordination mechanism.
QC had launched a relief campaign titled, “Yemen, we are with you” earlier with the objective of raising QR36,500,000 to provide about 1,260,000 Yemenis with food and medicine. It also supervised the distribution of 240 tonnes of Qatari aid that was airlifted to Djibouti–Ambouli International Airport.
More than 936,000 people have benefited from the relief aid assigned to Yemen in 2015 at a cost of QR24,700,000.
