Slovenian Prevc wins in Garmisch and takes Four Hills lead from Freund

Slovenian favourite Peter Prevc won the second Four Hills Tournament event on Friday and moved top of the overall classification in the prestigious ski-jumping competition.
Prevc lived up to his top billing as he soared 133.5 and 136 metres for 272.7 points in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for his fourth season victory and 10th overall in the World Cup.
Norway’s Kenneth Gangnes took second place with 260.1 points from 132m and 134m, and Tuesday’s Oberstdorf winner Severin Freund had 133.5m and 132.5m for 256.8 points and third place on the podium in front of a big German home crowd.
Prevc leads the Four Hills rankings into the final two events in Austria - Innsbruck on Sunday and Bischofshofen Wednesday - with 572.6 points, turning a 7.3-point deficit on Freund into an 8.6-point advantage.
Austria’s Michael Hayboeck is third overall on 551.5 points as the nation faces an uphill battle of getting an eighth straight Four Hills crown.
Prevc and Freund are seeking their first Four Hills title and agreed that nothing is decided yet.
“I managed to do two of the best jumps in Garmisch,” Prevc told German broadcasters ZDF. “I have to continue as good as I can. I have to be in attack mode.”
Freund was not overly concerned as third place was a big success for him on a hill where he has struggled in the past.
“This was my best competition here by a mile. Peter was very strong.  He has the advantage but I am happy how it went,” Freund said. “There are two to go and a lot can happen. I will try to put pressure on him with good jumps.”
Prevc also leads the World Cup with 724 points ahead of the holder Freund (559) and Gangnes (490).
