Qatar’s Sheikh Ali and Bassem finish second

Qatar’s Olympic-bound riders Sheikh Ali bin Khalid al-Thani and Bassem Hassan Mohammed fell short of victories in their respective events, as they finished second at the Al Rayyan International Show Jumping Championship 2016.

Saeed Nasser al-Qadi of Qatar receives his prize after winning the one round against the clock with Jump Off, Art. 238.2.2 – 120cm event.

At the Qatar Equestrian Federation outdoor arena yesterday, Khaled al-Eid of Saudi Arabia edged out Sheikh Ali by just 0.47 second margin in the One round against the clock, FEI Art. 238.2.1 - 145cm, the feature event of the day.
Khaled al-Eid astride his 10-year-old bay colt Valuta S put in an immaculate routine to come home in 62.16 seconds. Sheikh Ali mounting the 12-year-old Concordija had judged his round perfectly to finish clear in 62.63 seconds, but had to settle for the second spot. The third place went to Saudi’s Kamal Bahamdan (Nobless Des Tess), who timed 63.45 seconds.
Bassem too had to be content with second-place finish in One round against the clock with Jump Off, Art. 238.2.2 – 135cm event. The 26-year-old Qatari had won the main event at last week’s Qatar International Show Jumping Championship, and came closer yesterday to take out another victory.
However, Bassem and his partner nine-year-old grey Argelith Squid were second best as they finished in 43.55 seconds. Turkey’s Derin Demirsoy riding Bosphorus took the spot with an immaculate jump in 42.02 seconds. Alaa al-Sultan of Kuwait (Narwick Rouge) was third.
Saeed Nasser al-Qadi, though, had given Qatar a victory in the day’s second event, when came on top in the One round against the clock with Jump Off, Art. 238.2.2 – 120cm. Al-Qadi astride his able ally Jessico 4 finished ahead in a time of 28.30 seconds. Kuwait’s Ali al-Khorafi maintained his recent good form as he came second with Vlacido, while the last podium spot went to Saudi Arabia’s Khaled Almobty (Aloha).
