Govt refuses permission to screen film on Veerappan
The Tamil Nadu government has refused permission to screen a biopic on slain forest brigand Veerappan produced by filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma despite a go ahead from the Chennai High Court.
Veerappan lived a Robin Hood like lifestyle in the Sathyamangalam forests and was involved in smuggling sandalwood, kidnapping celebrities, extortion and other unlawful activities. He was shot dead by a Tamil Nadu Special Task Force in 2004.
Verma’s film titled Killing Veerappan, made in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu portrays the brigand’s last moments. Ironically Kannada actor Shivraj Kumar, whose late father, actor Rajkumar, was kidnapped by Veerappan and held hostage for 108 days in 2000 has a major role in the film.

This technology conceived and patented by Professor R Vasudevan, the dean of Thiagaraja Engineering College in Madurai, found sponsorship during Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalithaa’s 2006 tenure but petered out due to laxity in segregation and collection of virgin plastic waste.
