Independence Day greetings

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani have  sent cables of congratulations to  Cuban President Raul Castro on the occasion of the anniversary of his country’s Independence Day.

Ministry recalls Chevrolet Captiva
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced a recall of 2007-2009 Chevrolet Captiva models over a potential defect in the ignition key cylinder.
The recall is being carried out in collaboration with Jaidah Automotive.
The campaign falls within the framework of the MEC’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that car dealers follow up on vehicle defects and repairs.
The ministry has said it will co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on maintenance and repair works and communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out. It has urged all customers to report violations to its Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department through the hotline (16001), email (info@mec.gov.qa), Twitter (@MEC_Qatar), Instagram (MEC_Qatar) and the MEC mobile app for Android and iOS (MEC_Qatar).

Motorist fined QR10,000
A Doha Criminal Court has fined a Jordanian male motorist QR10,000 for causing minor injuries to a Qatari lady motorist through reckless driving.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that the accused drove recklessly and while trying to overtake other vehicles on the road got the victim perplexed.
Accordingly, she tried to avoid a collision and crashed into the iron barrier, following which her vehicle overturned crashing into four other parked cars, damaging them.  The lady however did not submit in the court any claims for damages.

NHRC chief meets Eritrea’s envoy
The Chairman of National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr Ali bin Samikh al-Marri met Eritrea’s ambassador to Qatar Ali Ibrahim Ahmed in Doha yesterday.
During the meeting, they discussed means of co-operation on issues of common interest and the exchange of expertise in the human rights field.
