HE the Minister of Public Health Abdullah bin Khalid al-Qahtani will inaugurate on January 17 Qatar’s first centre for early detection of breast and bowel cancer in Al Wakra. The centre is part of breast and bowel screening programme for early detection of cancer.
The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) said that the new centre will be based in Al Wakra health center and is the first of three centres dedicated to the early detection of breast and bowel cancer. The other two will be opened later.
Last December, the PHCC launched the ‘Screen for Life’ programme to promote awareness and early detection of breast and bowel cancer in Qatar.
The programme’s core objective is to save lives by encouraging women aged 45 years or older with no symptoms to undergo breast cancer screening. The campaign also calls on both men and women aged 50 years or older with no symptoms to undergo bowel cancer screening through FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test). The Supreme Council of Health recommends breast cancer screening every three years and bowel cancer screening every year.
