Austria’s Marcel Hirscher finally beat Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway in a slalom this season and returned to the top of the overall World Cup yesterday.
Hirscher fought from third after the first run to victory in a combined total 1 minute 54.54 seconds in Santa Caterina, Italy.
Kristoffersen, who won the first two season slaloms ahead of Hirscher, took second in 1:54.75. First-run leader Alexander Khoroshilov of Russia finished third in 1:54.86.
The four-times reigning champion Hirscher moved back into the World Cup lead with 721 points from his fifth season win overall, and 36th in his career. Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal remained on 636 as he does not compete in slaloms. Kristoffersen kept the slalom lead with 280 points ahead of Hirscher on 260.
