The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, has launched a major artistic project entitled ‘Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists,’ featuring more than 50 artists from about 20 countries including Qatar.

A preliminary meeting has been held with the organising committee and many participating artists. The significance of the project and its artistic and innovative uniqueness were discussed. The participants were walked through the terms and conditions of participation and the standards of the works to be presented.

This project involves a collection of murals prepared by a number of artists. To this end, Katara has dedicated blank murals around the Cultural Village for the creativity of Qatari and resident artists. They are supposed to draw their murals in front of the public.

Katara’s general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti described the initiative as part of Katara’s efforts in enriching the local artistic landscape.

Expressing confidence that the murals will embellish the ambience of Katara, which is a wonderful cultural and artistic facility, the official said the project will not be confined to a certain group or painting style.

“We are giving artists the freedom to draw according to their style. Our requirements are limited to the technical aspects of the murals, such as the quality of paintings and they need to be resistant to the weather conditions. Katara left the participation open to both professional and amateur artists to increase the opportunity of the exchange of expertise and to benefit from each other.”

“Art is the common language between people, irrespective of their differences. This comes as part of Katara’s mission in building bridges between cultures. Through painting in front of the public, we wanted to confirm that art is not confined to the elite in the society. The artist is a key individual who reflects on their immediate environment. There will be no cultural or artistic renaissance without artists. Art has a substantial role in building both the human and the society,” Dr al-Sulaiti added.

Dr Al-Sulaiti appreciated the participation of the artists saying: “These murals are seen as artistic record to the facilities of Katara and its ongoing development and expansion. This is in addition to its cultural messages that aim at building bridges between nations.”

The murals will be inspired from the geography and culture of Katara, its future plans and the Qatari culture.
