Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has donated $30,000 worth of relief goods to help people in Madaya, Syria besieged by conflicts.
Food packages, that included various food items such as rice, lentils, sugar, cheese, and infant formula, were distributed to 150 families.
Residents in the area continue to suffer from extreme hunger due to depleting commodities. Tomato juice is used instead of milk and widespread malnutrition has been reported that caused the death of 24 children.
QRCS has called on all the parties involved in the conflict to respect the international humanitarian law and conventions by allowing relief workers access to
distressed people.
This intervention is part of QRCS’s efforts to help Syrians affected by escalating conflicts in several parts of the country.
The office in Turkey faces many difficulties in moving assistance into Madaya due to security issues, road access to mountainous areas, and low temperature, among others.
QRCS said the lack of heaters, medicine and other medical supplies also adds to the suffering of the people, a situation that could lead to a more serious disaster in
Madaya.
Earlier, QRCS launched a relief intervention in Al Zabadani to support hospitals with $40,000 medical supplies, ambulance vehicle, power generator, and fuel. Douma hospitals also received $30,000 worth of medicines, fuel, ambulance vehicle, and blood bags from QRCS.
