Qatar Charity (QC) has inaugurated a primary school in Moheli, Comoros to provide the students of Nioumachoua better learning conditions.
The building, sitting on a 252sqm plot in the city, consists of three classrooms, a management room, bathrooms, and a playground.
Adabi Ibrahim, QC’s office representative in the Comoros, said the project represents one of their most highlighted interests - education.
“Through this school, we are giving the children the chance to have a say in their future, ” he said. “Education is the first step towards development, we at QC understand that and we work according to such belief. ”
QC wants to enhance the living standards of students, fight illiteracy among children of Comoros, and to help improve its educational system.
School officials thanked QC for constructing a new building that will accommodate the growing number of students, as well as reducing the size of each class to make teaching more effective.
QC also announced recently the inauguration of 430 income-generating projects at Comoros. These include supporting poor families through interest-free loans which will be used to implement small economic projects totalled QR1,268,000.
In addition, QC constructed a building for official meetings in Moheli and maintained the road connecting Wanani city and Nioumachoua (17km) to encourage tourism.
QC has also contributed in food security for the poor communities through
various agricultural projects.
The establishment of a co-operative in Azew located north of Ngazidja island benfitted its members which included young farmers and graduates from agricultural institutes.
Banana, vegetable, and pineapple seeds, as well as modern agricultural machines, were also given to farmers aimed at improving the agricultural sector of the country.
The equipment was delivered to the cooperative during a ceremony held by QC inComoros.
Jaber Nasser al-Na’imi, chargé d’ affaires at the Qatar Embassy in Moroni; the commissioner of the ministry of agriculture in Comoros, local officials from the North of Ngazidja Island; and QC office director Mahfouz Zmirlin attended the event.
Some 1,000 banana trees, 6,000 sugarcane plants, 500 pineapple plants, and different kinds of vegetables have been planted on a 10-hectare land.
