Mohamed Kamal Hachad was the highest scoring player in the Qatar Men’s Basketball League yesterday, and yet his team Al Shamal ended up being the losing side.
Hachad scored 35 points, and he even had Mildon Ambres for company with 24 points, but Al Sadd still managed to beat Shamal 88-82 at the Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday.
Hachad had eight two-pointers and five three-pointers besides four free throws to show for for his 35-point haul.
For Sadd, Mohamed Deba Kone was the top-scorer with 26 points, while Anthony Raffa added 23 points to the winning effort. The other Sadd players in double figures were Khalid Suliman Abdi with 16 points and Daoud Mousa with 12.
Sadd had built up a health 14-point lead at 24-10 in the second quarter but Hachad and Ambres got their act together to close the gap but in the end it still wasn’t enough.
In the second match of the day, El Jaish came up with a commanding display brushing aside Qatar SC challenge 107-70.
Sammy Monroe Jr. II (33 points) and Vernon Leon Macklin (30) got together to score 63 points for the winning team, who never let go off the lead. Saeed Ibrahim al-Malki and Ali Turki Ali pitched in with 15 and 14 points respectively.
Consteveous Jefferson scored 25 points for Qatar SC. Abdulraman Ibrahim al-Muftah and Malcolm Anthony White added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Today, Al Ahli take on Al Wakrah in the first match at 5:30pm, while Al Gharafa face off with Al Rayyan at 7:30pm.
