Court sentences expat to 10-year jail term for dealing in drugs

A Doha Court has sentenced an Egyptian expatriate man to 10 years in jail and imposed a fine of QR400,000 for drug dealing and consumption.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that the defendant was convicted of possessing, selling and consuming hashish and a number of tramadol pills. The court also ordered his deportation upon serving the sentence.
His female accomplice was sentenced to one year in jail and a fine of QR10,000.  The case started when a secret source gave a tip to the Drugs Prevention Department that the defendant used to sell such drugs in Doha’s Najma area. An undercover officer from the department approached him to buy an amount of hashish at a sum of QR2,000. At the time and place where the delivery was to take place, the defendant was caught by the police.
Then, he was escorted to his apartment, where his accomplice was present and some small amounts of hashish were found in addition to a number of tramadol pills, prepared for sale.  The court convicted him based on the testimony of the officer and investigation reports.
