Doha: Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit will play host to Round 3 of Season 7 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East with top regional and international drivers prepared for a weekend of high octane competition in the Middle East’s most professional racing series.
Consistency will be the key for Qatar-based Charlie Frijns who has maximised his time on track to boost his knowledge of the challenging Yas Marina Circuit. In what is his debut weekend on the track the young driver has admitted he will have to get to grips with the tight turns and long straights if he is to mount a challenge for a podium spot.
Frijns said: “We went out yesterday and I wasn’t happy with the times we were coming in with. We had a look at a few things and went out today on new tires which seemed to help. The most important thing here is to qualify in good time and get a strong start on the grid. It will be important to adapt to this track ahead of tomorrow’s race but it’s great to race here.”
Round 3 marks the region’s leading one-make race series’ long-awaited return to Yas Marina Circuit after a three year absence from the famed home of the Abu Dhabi GP. Regarded as the purest form of racing with all drivers competing in identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cups, the unique one-make series consists of 12 races between November 2015 and March 2016.
