Ashghal holds safety awareness training for construction sector

Quality and safety department of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) organised training courses to raise awareness about the safety procedures in the construction sector.
The courses were held to enhance public’s knowledge and application of the requirements and standards of the occupational health and safety plan, approved by the upgraded version of the Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS 2014), according to an Ashghal
statement.
The training workshops are held once a week in the presence of project managers and engineers from Ashghal. The participants are nominated by various departments, sections, and projects and are held in collaboration with the training and development section of the human resources department.
The first lecture of the training course included a general explanation and definition of the Qatar Construction Specifications 2014. It was followed by another lecture on how to evaluate the occupational health and safety plan in projects and how safety managers and supervisors can assess contractors.
First Safety engineer Ehab Saleh made the first presentation while the second was by Safety Specialist Yasser Berzan.
The Ashghal is keen to hold such training courses to specialists in the field of health and safety of projects for making them aware of the amendments in the upgraded version of the Qatar Construction Specifications related to the industry requirements, standards and management systems of safety and accidents prevention.
The training courses also aim to guarantee the application of these specifications in the best way possible and in all of the work sites of the authority’s projects.
The importance of the occupational health and safety plan lies in being one of the key elements for the prevention and minimising accidents at workplaces. Therefore, the evaluation and approval of the plan must be done on a scientific and objectives basis in order to serve its purpose.
Ashghal began such workshops in 2010. During the past months, the authority implemented a training plan which featured 8 sessions about the Qatar Construction Specifications 2010 (The previous version).
Ashghal held the workshops with the intention of informing its projects managers and engineers of all requirements and standards approved by these specifications.
Certificates were given to participants who passed the tests, and the last set of certificates was distributed in November. The certificates were distributed to 77 participants for the training courses held in May and June last year.
Soon, certificates will be distributed to 68 participants who attended the training courses held in October and November last year.
