Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) welcomed potential master’s degree students yesterday for the Graduate Studies Open House.  
The event aimed to answer questions for prospective students about Tamuq’s two master’s programmes in chemical engineering.
“Potential graduate students learned about our programmes, resources and campus life,” said Dr Patrick Linke, executive director of Graduate Studies and chair of the Chemical Engineering Programme at Tamuq. There were presentations by current students to illustrate typical graduate student work. A panel discussion across academia and industry debated the need to graduate education in a knowledge-based society.
“Our graduate students will participate in cutting-edge research that aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 for sustainable development. Our class schedules allow part-time studies next to full-time employment in industry or government, and we also have a number of graduate research and teaching assistantship positions available for full-time students every year.”
Potential graduate students were invited to the event to interact with current students and recently graduated students. Faculty and administrators were present to provide information on the programme. Attendees also toured Tamuq’s world-class facilities and state-of-the-art laboratories to get a better perspective on being an Aggie graduate student. Prospective graduate students learned about Tamuq’s graduate programme offerings.
Dr   Eyad Masad, vice dean, said Tamuq is dedicated to achieving the goals sets forward in Qatar National Vision 2030, and the graduate programme is a significant contributor to the development of the human capital Qatar needs to support the country’s vision and future. Applications for the Master of Science and Master of Engineering programmes are being accepted for the fall 2016 semester and will remain open until June 1, 2016.
