Injaaz Stud’s My Sharona won her second straight feature race this month when JP Guillambert rode the Jassim Ghazali charge to victory in the Umm Al Houl Cup, a Class 1 Conditions race for Thoroughbreds, at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club here yesterday.
Three weeks ago, the six-year-old mare had beaten a similar field over a kilometre-long Al Mafiar Cup – Thoroughbred Sprint, to open the season with a victory.

Yesterday, Ibrahim al-Malki’s Victory Laurel edged out Debbie Mountain-schooled Chilworth Icon to finish second behind My Sharona.
Khalifa bin Sheail al-Kuwari’s Sandbetweenourtoes, who had finished second three weeks ago, was ridden to a fourth-place finish by Harry Bentley.
The victory was Ghazali’s third of the day.
Al Majd Stud’s Cappuccino Delight gave Ghazali his first win of the day when the Suave
filly picked up her second Thoroughbred Handicap win this season.
Champion jockey Bentley was at the helm of the chestnut filly when she edged out Majed Seifeddine’s charge Front Run and Abdulaziz Jassim al-Boenain’s filly Farendole.
Bentley-Ghazali combine picked up their second win in the seven-race card when The Smart One, owned by Jassim bin Ali al-Attiyah, won the Class 4 Thoroughbred Handicap event ahead of Mountain-schooled Alsefra and Zuhair Mohsen’s charge New Pearl.
HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s Ba’sil also raced to his second victory this month when the Julian Smart-trained Amer colt beat Zakhir Stud’s Zameer for a win in the Purebred Arabian Conditions event. Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS Qahir was third.
Cedric Segeon rode Vit’Al Fauquey to her first win since January 2013, when the Osama Omar al-Dhafa’s mare emerged victorious in the Purebred Arabian Handicap event.
Amer progeny Kaydoum, trained by H al-Jehani, finished second in the 1800m dirt event ahead of half-brother Khattab, schooled by Mohsen.
In the first race of the day, Dhafi al-Marri’s Al Aayar shed his maiden status on his sixth attempt when he won the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate event.
Jockey Marco Monteriso rode four-year-old colt to a two-and-a-half length victory ahead of Sheikh Faisal bin Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani’s Meqdam Al Zaidy and Umm Qarn’s Hijran.
Also winning on his sixth outing in Doha was Pipe Bomb, a bay colt owned by Abdulaziz Jassim al-Boenain.
The Zuhair Mohsen-trained colt finished half a length ahead of another Sheikh Faisal-owned horse, Izghawa, a three-year-old filly trained by Ibrahim al-Malki. Ahmed Hassan al-Malki al-Jehani’s Dubawi Coast finished
third.
