One week to go for Doha Dash on National Sport Day

Anticipation and excitement are building for the start of the Dolphin Energy Doha Dash 2016, which is now just two weeks away. More than 3,000 people are expected to turn out at this year’s event which takes place on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Losail International Circuit. The website for the race www.dohadash.com will remain open for registration until end of day today.
The Dolphin Energy Doha Dash 2016 will open to the public at 7am. The 10km, 5km and 3km races will start at 8am, 9.15am and 9.45am respectively, with a warm up period of 10 minutes preceding each race. The 1km Mini Doha Dash will start at 10:45, followed by the 1km Ladies Walk at 11:00 am. Prize giving ceremonies for the 10km, 5km and 3km races will also be held on the day.
Double Olympic gold medalist Dame Kelly Holmes, the event’s ambassador for the second year running, Mariam Farid, the Qatari National title holder for the 400m hurdles, also a Dolphin Energy Doha Dash 2016 ambassador and Ali Longmate, fitness expert and radio personality, will all be present at the event and are scheduled to participate in the different races. Ali Longmate will also lead all warm up sessions ahead of the races.
The Dolphin Energy Doha Dash 2016 will also feature a number of fun activities to keep spectators and young families entertained throughout the event, including the GO Sport Fitness Centre equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, GO Sport basketball challenge and experts offering tips and training techniques. The race’s airline partner, Etihad Airways will be bringing their state-of-the-art Formula 1 simulators for everyone to enjoy.
Dolphin Energy Qatar general manager Hassan al-Emadi said: “It has been wonderful seeing the positive response to the event. Personally, I am looking forward to joining thousands of runners at the starting line and would like to wish everyone the very best of luck.”
Go Sport general manager Andrew Fairall added: “For the second year, Go Sport will support this popular community event, which is now an important feature of the Doha calendar. We believe in the importance of exercise and leading a healthy and active lifestyle; Doha Dash embodies this vision. We are excited to welcome all participants and look forward to a fun-filled family day.”
Supporting the vision behind Qatar National Sport Day, the Dolphin Energy Doha Dash has established itself as one of the most popular community events in the Qatari Capital. Since its launch in 2013, the event has seen a steady year-on-year increase in participation. More than 2,500 participants took part in the 2015 event, a 77% increase from the inaugural event in 2013.
