QFA and Qatar Shell to celebrate National Sport Day with Koora Time ‘Run to Win’ competition

Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Shell will celebrate this year’s National Sport Day with a Koora Time ‘Run the Distance’ football competition. The event will be held from 9 am to 5 pm at the Aspire Zone, Pitch 7 on Tuesday February 9th and is open to the general public.  No pre-registration is required.
Featuring over 1,000 young players in a ‘Winner Stays On’ format, the match is not about who scores the most goals, but who takes the most steps and burns the most calories. Every player’s movement will be tracked using sports technology by STATS SportVU, the Official Player Tracking Partner of Aspire and the NBA. The technology will gauge which team takes the most steps and burns most calories.
Koora Time’s National Sport Day activities will also feature a comprehensive fan zone area, offering numerous fun activities with something for everyone, including Bubble Ball, open play football, Speed Shot, Shoot To Score, and Aerobics.
The ‘Run the Distance’ football competition is part of Koora Time, a five-year sustainable initiative designed to improve the health and wellbeing of Qatar’s youth through football. The community-inspired initiative supports the Social and Human Development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy by engaging young people in Qatar at every stage of their lives.
Koora Time was recently recognised for its positive contribution to Qatari society as the ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Impact Initiative’ at the CSR Awards Qatar 2015. This award adds to KOORA TIME’s many accolades which include recognition at the Sport Industry Awards 2014 for ‘Best Youth Development Initiative’, the AFC Dream of Asia Award in the area of social responsibility and the Dar Al Sharq CSR Award for ‘Best Sports Initiative’.
National Sport Day was inaugurated in 2012 by HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to promote the importance of sport and physical activity in leading a healthy and active lifestyle. A five-year sustainable initiative between Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Shell, Koora Time is designed to improve the health and wellbeing of Qatar’s youth through football. This initiative aims to facilitate access to more football in a non-competitive environment, supporting an active and healthy lifestyle amongst the young people in Qatar. As part of the five-year campaign, QFA and Qatar Shell will jointly organise and launch a series of youth engagement programmes using football as the platform.
Koora Time supports the Social and Human Development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy (NDS) through engaging the young people in Qatar at every stage of their lives with different programmes that are tailored to three age groups 7 to 12 years, 13 to 17 years and 18-24 years.
