A wound in human society

Dear Sir,

US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s outbursts can only serve to deepen racial divisions in America. Racist prejudice remains a major problem the world over though public opinion is increasingly incensed by it. Moral conscience can by no means accept it.
Racism exists and continually reappears in different forms. It is a wound in human society that mysteriously remains open. Racism is an evil, irrational and morally contemptible doctrine.
Racism is a corrosion that has bitten into the fibre and attacked the whole structure of American society.
We urgently require an essential shift in perception that must be made to combat and exorcise the spectre of racial hatred.
We fail to realise that racism is our greatest threat, the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason, the maximum of cruelty for a minimum of thinking.
Racism is tantamount to satanism, an unmitigated evil. It is the most recalcitrant aspect of the evil in men and women.
Racism is an evil which endures in our society despite apparent advances and significant changes in the last two decades.
Racism persists in covert ways under the guise of other motives; it is manifest in the tendency to stereotype and marginalise segments of the population whose presence is perceived as a threat.
There is no antidote for this contagious virus. The only way to treat toxic racism is to enact stringent laws to combat it.

Genuine care about consumers

Dear Sir,

The news that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has made three car dealers in Doha to replace five defective vehicles with new ones after their service centres failed to repair recurring faults shows the government’s care for consumer rights.
The ministry, the report notes (Gulf Times, February 2), took the action after receiving complaints from several vehicle owners regarding manufacturing defects.
Such pro-consumer measures are highly appreciated.
