The first International Arbitration Conference on arbitration and dispute resolution being organised by the International Chamber of Commerce Qatar (ICC Qatar) is set to open today. The conference aims to promote arbitration as a flexible and efficient dispute resolution procedure.
It is being held under the patronage of HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada. Jointly organised with the International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) and the International Court of Arbitration and in partnership with Squire Patton Boggs, the event is sponsored by Al Sulaiti Law Firm.
“This conference is part of the continuing efforts of ICC Qatar to ease the way of doing business in Qatar,” said Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, chairman, Qatar Chamber, ICC Qatar and Executive Board Member of ICC International Secretariat.
“In joining forces with QICCA and ICC Court of Arbitration and with the extensive support of the government, national and international oil and gas companies, major stakeholders, local and international law firms, we bring together an exceptional network of individuals to share our experience in disputes resolutions,” he added.
The conference addresses the challenges in the current context gathering leading practitioners to discuss issues on energy disputes, with a special attention to the ICC practice and experiences under the ICC arbitration rules.
Andrea Carlevaris, secretary general, ICC International Court of Arbitration, said: “The Middle East in general is an area where the ICC International Court of Arbitration has seen a huge growth in recent years. This conference is, therefore, a timely and welcome initiative.”
Mubarak bin Abdullah al-Sulaiti, chairman, Al Sulaiti Law Firm, said: “The energy industry is one of the essential and necessary industries of our daily life.
