Arabi win big against Ahli; Gharafa down Sadd

After a slow start, Al Arabi marched forward to a commanding 113-78 win over Al Ahli during the Qatar Men’s Basketball League match at Al Gharafa Sports Club here yesterday.
Temi Narcellius Soyebo and Todd Edward O’Brien scored 63 points between them as Arabi won by a massive 35-point margin.
Within the first five minutes of the game, an eight-point scoring run saw Ahli take a 12-5 lead over their opponent but the complexion changed by the time the quarter ended as Soyebo, O’Brien annd Co. went up by 31-17.
Thereafter Arabi never let go off their grip on the game leading for a total of over 35 minutes in the match.
Soyebo topped the scoresheets with 34 points. The effort included 11 two-pointers, three three-pointers and three free-throws. O’Brien dunked 12 two-pointers and five free-throws besides notching up 17 rebounds for his 29-point haul. The others to get into double figures for Al Arabi were Khalid Masoud al-Nasr with 14 points and Osama Adel Mohamed Matalqah with 13 points.
For Ahli Terrence Lavalle Joyner Jr. scored 25 points, while Ndoye Elhadj Seydou and Mustafa Elsadiq added 20 and 15 points respectively.
Unlike the first match of the day, the tie between Al Sadd and Al Gharafa was a slow moving affair that was eventually won by the hosts 57-41 without ever losing the lead.
Kevin Dwayne Galloway led the scoring for the eventual winners with 14 points while Abdulrahman Mohamed Saad added 12 and Hassino Ndoye scored 10.
There were only two Sadd players in double figures — Mohamed Deba Kone with 12 points and Khalid Suliman Abdi with 10.
